Live tables: what differs from a slot machine

The elegance of a live table is real; an edge from it is not. What genuinely changes is written in four lines of the table rules.
The atmosphere is the product
A live table sells an experience: a real dealer, a calmer rhythm, the feel of a room. That is a legitimate product — it is simply not an advantage. What changes arithmetically is not in the setting but in the table rules.
The four lines that set the house edge

The difference between 3:2 and 6:5 alone weighs more than anything watching the table could ever produce. Choosing between two tables therefore settles most of the question — and it is possible before sitting down.
Why a dealer cannot be read
They make no decision that shifts the outcome: at blackjack their behaviour is fixed entirely by house rules, and at roulette the procedure yields no usable information. Card counting in turn requires cards to stay in play across several hands — in the usual live formats the shoe is shuffled early.
What genuinely changes
- Pace. Markedly slower than a slot — at the same stake less turnover accumulates per hour.
- Table limits. Fixed and usually higher; a small budget does not fit every table.
- Data use. A video stream costs roughly what an hour of video costs.
- Side bets. Perfect Pairs, 21+3 and similar extras carry, without exception, a considerably higher house edge than the base game.
